False Teachers Print

False teachers have been around for a long time. Jesus ran into false teachers in His day and He called them hypocrites, “He answered and said unto them, “Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.  Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Mark 7:6-7).

Jesus’ condemnation of the Jewish leaders of His day made them very angry. False teaching causes religious division and false teaching comes from false teachers. Friends, the doctrines of men are what divide people today, not the truth.

As a young man, many years ago, I was discussing the need for obedience to God’s word with a much older “pastor” and he became very angry when I cited this Bible passage to prove my point: “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Hebrews 5:8-9). The “pastor” got very red-faced and shouted angrily at me, “I don’t have to obey anybody!” And then he struck his fist over his heart and said, “I’ll take what I feel right here over a stack of Bibles!”

I certainly had to agree with him that he didn’t have to obey the Lord. Yes, he could reject the commands of God and be eternally lost if he wanted to. God will not force anyone and make them go to heaven against their will. He believed the doctrine of “faith only” and that is an example of how far that false doctrine will lead people in rejecting the clear word of God.

The “pastor” went on to tell me how he could commit every sin imaginable (from murder to adultery) every day of his life and he still would not be lost eternally. He said this because of the false doctrine of “once saved, always saved” that he believed. You have to feel sorry for people like that who will let false doctrine lead them to eternal separation from God.

Dear reader, please listen to the word of God and obey it. God has always required faith AND obedience for mankind’s salvation. Always! From Genesis to Revelation, obedience cannot be separated from salvation.
