We have been discussing religious division.  Division is a terrible and disgraceful thing and God does not approve of it! The opposite of division is UNITY. God intended for all men to dwell together in complete unity and harmony in every way. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1).

The night before Jesus was crucified he prayed that all those who would follow Him would be ONE (John 17:20-23). How can religious unity be accomplished? Only by following the simple word of God! If all men would just follow the Bible alone, we could have religious unity and there would be peace and harmony among true believers of Christ.

If God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit can be united and be one in every way, why can’t the followers of Jesus be united today? Religious division is sinful. Think about it!

If all men were united on what the Bible teaches, we could win the world for Christ! How many churches did Jesus build? He told Peter He would build His church (singular) not churches (plural) in Matthew 16:18. Jesus built only ONE church (Acts 2:47). So, why do we have hundreds of different denominational churches? Division is caused by a lack of respect for what God’s word teaches.

Friend, how much do you desire religious unity? If I want unity with all my heart then I will be willing to give up all my personal religious ideas and beliefs and be guided only by the Bible. The Word of God alone will lead all men to religious unity IF they have a burning love for the truth. All men can unite on what the Bible teaches but we will NEVER be able to agree on a denominational manual, or the teachings of men.

The apostle Paul wrote the church at Corinth and admonished them to be “joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10). Was he asking for the impossible? The only way they could come to the same understanding was if they followed the same teaching which came from God. This fact is still true today. Calling churches by different names, teaching different doctrines, standing on different creeds will not bring unity to the religious world. We can only be united on what the Bible teaches.
