Today we have churches on almost every corner of town it seems, and sadly, each church is teaching a different doctrine. Why is this? Preachers are not willing to discuss this problem of religious division which is just the opposite of unity. The Bible plainly condemns division. Instead of wanting unity, religious leaders will talk about having “unity in diversity” whatever that means. This is really a contradiction of terms. How can we be united if we are determined to be divided? With that kind of mentality, religious division is assured and will continue to divide people.

Paul wrote about the sin of religious division as he sent his first letter to the Corinthians, “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10).

Anyone who reads their Bible can see who is responsible for division. “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints” (1Corinthians 14:33). Since God is not the one causing religious division, the blame for division must fall squarely upon men. Many men simply have not been content to abide in the teaching of Christ, (2 John 1:9) therefore they do not have God. Friends, this is very serious!

Religious division is an ugly and deadly thing! Just think how confusing it is to someone searching for the truth to find so many different denominations in the world today teaching different doctrines. What is a person to believe? What church is right? Are any of these denominations right in God’s sight? Division causes men to blaspheme God and turn away from Him.

Years ago, the comedian, Flip Wilson, made fun of religion by starting his, “Church of What’s Happening Now” denomination on his television show. He received a lot of laughs, I am sure, but that is just an example of how ugly division is.

Only by casting aside what any man teaches, and following just the Bible alone, can we find the truth and be united. Dear reader, the Bible is always right. My opinion, or any man’s opinion, will only led to further confusion, division, and lost souls.
